Well, here you are…now what?
In Gone Away, you’ve made the trek out to a cabin in the middle of the frozen north for a break from modern life. Now that you’re there, it’s time to settle in…or is it? The choices you make while you’re at the cabin will determine how the trip ends up. Please enjoy your stay…
Gone Away followed after the theme of Global Game Jam 2019, “what home means to you.” The idea came from a desire between our team members to write a visual novel that touched on the subject, an idea I wanted to try out for a game with minimal visuals and immersive audio, and a secondary theme of “crispness,” given as a diversifier from our jamming site. It was the first time I’d ever worked on a visual novel, and I handled the programming in Unity by myself. We ended up with what I think is a pretty interesting story-based game, dripping with atmosphere from its audio and visual effects, with a compelling but strange sense of mystery surrounding its central house.
